YL BACKS CHANGES FOR RAIL, VAPING & ROAD TAX
Young Liberals also debated nuclear, education & AI
At Young Liberals Summer Conference 2023, we backed exciting new policies on major issues for young people across the country. With the cost-of-living crisis still making things difficult for so many people, we reaffirmed a commitment to new nuclear power stations, and an increase in grid capacity.
Our emergency motion called for action on disposable vapes, ensuring that people who want to vape not smoke have access to reusable vapes, and more research is done into the health effects of vaping.
High-Speed Rail was also on the agenda, with a motion to back HS2, East-West Rail, and future projects to create a railway revolution for the whole country.
We also backed a new approach to road tax, with increased fuel duty, scrappage schemes, and new ways of funding congestion-charging zones.
Looking to the future, YL adopted a new policy on AI regulation to ensure data is transparent, and international approaches are taken to AI development.
Education policy pledged support for arts & humanities funding, and a new approach to religious education for the 21st Century.
